We encourage you to begin fundraising as soon as you can. Get together with your teammates who may also be coming from your school to host fundraising events together. Use the included sponsorship letter to send out to family, friends, and local businesses. The worst they can say is no, so give it a try!

FUNDRAISING PROGRAM

TOP 5 FUNDRAISING EVENTS:

These have been compiled from past participants & coaches. After registering, you will be emailed a more extensive list.

  1. Kiddy Camp: Host a “kiddy” camp for 3-5 days where the athletes on your squad are the coaches to a younger crowd. Include a T-shirt so that they can look like a team when they perform. One-day clinics in the season are also great, and allow the kids to perform at a game.
  2. Goodie Raffle: Have a goodie raffle at home games!  Each cheerleader donates a cake, cookie bars, pie, etc. and they are raffled at halftime. Hint: Pies bring the most money.
  3. Valentine Balloons: Make money on Valentine’s Day by selling and delivering helium balloons. Take orders three weeks prior to the holiday. Arrange with a local balloon or stationery store to supply you with balloons and helium at wholesale prices (or maybe even at cost).  Each person ordering a balloon should fill out an order card with the name, address, and phone number of the balloon recipient, the seller’s name, and a special message. Collect all the cards several days before Valentine’s Day. On Valentine’s Day, have cheerleaders come early to fill the balloons and attach the messages with the rest of the cheerleaders coming later to deliver them.  It’s simple, and you can also use this idea for other holidays.
  4. VIP Seating at home games: Reserve a section of “prime” seating at the games and sell tickets for these seats. Seats come with pizza/drinks.
  5. Spaghetti Dinner: Collect donations for food and sell tickets to the dinner. Cheerleaders serve to the community. It could be held before a big sporting event!

HOW TO OBTAIN CORPORATE/PRIVATE SPONSORS:

  1. Download our Sample Sponsorship Letter by clicking on that link!
  2. Prepare letters to mail or hand deliver to as many companies as possible.  Include local companies and those that you, your family or school does business with, and friends and family that might want to support you.  Feel free to retype the letter on the next page and personalize it by including your picture and info about yourself that highlights your achievements, such as academics, skills, and activities you’re involved in.
  3. Follow up with a phone call or personal visit a few days after they have received the letter.  Ask for the person in charge of monetary sponsorships.  Tell them who you are and who you represent (name of your high school).  Ask if they have had a chance to review the letter and if they have any questions.  Be positive and respectful.
  4. Remember that some will be glad to help out and others will not.  Don’t take it personally, just keep moving forward.  Many companies are finalizing their budgets now, so don’t wait to get started.
  5. When collecting donations, have checks payable to CHEERHAWAII USA, with your name on the check in the “for” section. We will apply it to your account. Overpayments will be refunded to you.
